A spa-like bath means your bathroom is so beautiful and sumptuous you need to be reminded you are home. Spa means you are going to take…….your…….time. There is no hurry up, get in and get out. Spa means this is all about your indulgence. Spa means there are candles and no harsh lights. Sounds great doesn’t it? We better get started.

Here is another version of spa. This one does have candles. Another something this rustic bath has is the feeling of being a room – not a utility space. The fireplace, rough hewn stone and candles make it so.

Furniture against the wall. No. No. No. If you can ‘float’ your furniture you will be amazed with the results. It’s much more conversational and intimate. See how the back of this sofa is creating a hallway?
The area carpet grounds, plants the furniture. The four side chairs could be pulled into any configuration to complement whatever sort of gathering you are having, a game night or small conversation groups.

Our last rule that you can definitely break – and it’s one of my favorites. Dining can happen anywhere! Table and chair(s) is all you need! Do it. Try it. It’s so fun to change your view once in a while. Celebrate with a different setting.

Powder rooms are excellent places to go over the top. Bright colors and powerful wallpaper in a small room that we don’t spend a lot of time. We can splurge here. If you want to paint it cobalt blue you won’t weary of it, you are not making dinner there every night. If you want an expensive paper, you can, powder rooms tend to be small. So you are limiting the cost of the project by the size of the room.

This bathroom is a conservative knock-out. It’s not over the top. Let’s see if we can find one for our next post.

Art doesn’t have to be expensive, huge or hung in the perfect place. This is a snap shot collection over the bed. It’s perfection. Like keeping what you treasure most close to your heart.

Hanging something that is too small or off center can work if profound enough and balanced. The art, profile of a woman, is profound. It’s balanced by the off-balanced upholstery of the sofa and the cactus and slipper chair. We realize this isn’t for everyone’s sensibilities, but it does follow the rules of balance. Not strict rules, but creative rules.

Here are more reasons why Neutrals are so Fantastic.

4. Easy to Change Your Scheme
5. Allows for an extravaganza of pattern
6. Texture is exciting like faux fur, metals, and shimmering glass

Table lamps do not need to match. They need to be balanced but they don’t have to match. This Living Room by Inovah uses white to balance either end of the sofa and the two stacks of books mirror each other as well. There isn’t a thing that matches in this entire room, which is evidence of creative thinking. And strong design skills.

With our second example, complements of IKEA, they don’t use color to save the day. The yellow floor lamp mimics the yellow pillow and the white table lamp is similar to the cocktail table. Repetition is an important factor when composing a room.

Neither do side chairs have to match. They need to complement each other and the room in some way but they don’t need to match. These two side chairs are similar in size and their color is repeated somewhere else in the room. The blue carpet, blue walls and blue pillows are the threads that tie this together so well.

This is something I believe is a fun and functional piece for your home. They don’t have to be for alcohol only. You could serve breakfast to your overnight guests. You could make a coffee and cookie cart. It could be a craft caddie for you or the kids. If you have more than one floor, I would consider one for each floor:)

A good reminder as we start the new year is to source locally.
Local artists and local vendors are a vital part of our communities.
When we support them with our business we:
1.) Boost our neighborhood.
2.) Create more and better jobs.
3.) Know and appreciate each other better.
4.) Keep our footprint smaller, why buy from far away when we can shop next door?
Less time and money when we do business with those close to us.
5.) Build better community relationships, become friends with our suppliers means better service and a
happier, healthier community,
6.) Support local business is a better economic value than supporting a super-chain or virtual shopping.

With so many options, so easy to reach anyone with our tremendous internet tools, so easily accessible, it’s still smart to shop local.

Three D Tile by Kaza Trend 2016

This Three D Tile by Kaza is a bit different isn’t it? I’m not sure it’s going to be a Classic but if you want something new and different this is it. It is fun. It will be a conversation starter.
I include this bathroom for you as well. I’m not sure if it’s Three D or looks three dimensional.
I believe it looks beautiful with the Scalamandre Zebra paper.

This is called Hot-Pink and it’s one of the colors by PPG. This would be called a large dose of pink.
Doesn’t it do wonderful things for your state of mind, if you are a pink lover or a color lover?
It’s fun, it’s romantic, it’s powerful. No wallflowering in this room. Say what’s on your mind or lean in and whisper in my ear. Thoughts and Feelings will happen in this room.

Now if you want pink but not quite so much how about this? With lots of white, you can have a little pink and not be overwhelmed but still very happy.

This is a very good opportunity to say something about style. Both these great living rooms are using pink, both are beautiful. But each one will appeal to different sensibilities. The hot pink room is very Baroque. It has a lovely French Flair. And do you notice the whimsical touch? The serious lady with a floppy hat, and the serious bust with a silly helmet and shades! Excellent. Our second pink is a totally different formula. Here we have tons of stuff all very organized (we hope). It looks like a children’s play room doesn’t it, or a craft center. It could be a day care. But look at the chandelier, doesn’t it just add the perfect touch of ‘I love my room!’ The pink living room is very adult, you can see the pink has the same excitement as the our French example above but it has been tethered a little bit.
