Can’t figure out the wall color for your living room, bedroom or family room?
Ask for help from a design professional. Do you like neutrals, pastels or strong colors?
Do you have a few selections already made and need confirmation to move ahead?
A strong color is in the bedroom above and pastels in the room below.
Which do you prefer? Is it time for a big change? Do you like what you have but want something a
just a bit different? A conversation with a designer would help you figure things out.
A new window treatment is a small project. One must remember
that depending on the size of the window and cost of the fabric the
overall costs of the project will vary. But if you compare a window
treatment with a kitchen renovation you can appreciate the difference
between small and large.
Any room will be freshened up, transformed with a new window treatment.
Make the room seem larger by copying the wall color. Notice how the gray wall
color is repeated in the drape in the above room? Make the room pop
by adding a complimentary color as in the room below.
You might need help with deciding what art to place over your sofa.
It might be you can’t decide what to hang, one large piece or a collage of
art which is called salon style as in this above living room.
A designer can help you shop for just the right art or she can help you decide
if something you already have would work. If you do decide you like the salon
style – a designer can make templates and decide the arrangement. What will
be the unifying factor: the frame – the art – the colors – the style? Working
with a designer is a smart move. It removes the many decisions and complicated
process from your shoulders and gives it to someone who loves these kind of problems.
This is very masculine and would be very suitable as a master bedroom.
The soft sheers add softness compensating for the rigidity of the four posters.
Again you have a balance of soft and hard. The bedding adds a circular pattern to
offset the linear posts. The matching side table and lamps are symmetrical.
The stack of books at the end of the bed is asymmetrical. Everyone is happy.
This is a knock-out and isn’t for everyone even if you are a canopy fanatic.
This is bizarre in style. Bizarre means that something is unusual in appearance, style, or general character and often involving incongruous or unexpected elements; outrageously or whimsically strange; odd. The pink bed takes ones breath away. Put that alongside orange sheers is incongruous. The orange sheers are talking very nicely with the bedding though so one really can’t complain. But you still have the incongruity of bright pink and orange side by side.
This kitchen is coastal because of the blue and white theme
and the over-sized lantern pendants.
There is no blue and white in this kitchen. This is not a casual kitchen at all.
The white cabinets, the sand colored walls, the warm wood floor and the
rattan seating make it beach savvy.
This is very beachy but then again it’s not. So we will say it’s a moderate.
The two chairs and coffee table are very organic which makes them fit beautifully.
Blue and white are famous for beach colors so there again you have a strong leaning
toward coastal décor. The whale pillow steals the show and underlines the theme.
Take away the pillow and the fronds and this room can be anywhere.
With the big blue sea within spitting distance you might not need
so much of a beach theme. Then again wouldn’t it be odd if there
wasn’t a pretty glass jar of shells anywhere in sight? This room is strictly neutral,
there is no coral or sand dollars in sight.
With the water and sky so large, you don’t want a scrambled message with a Jacobean style
or a Southwestern theme.
This bedroom is darling with the wave headboard. It’s not something you can put away like
the jar of shells when you want to say beach more softly – so decorating with strong beach
images need to be well thought out.
