This is an awesome library. It belongs to George Lucas.
It looks almost public doesn’t it? There may be regular visitors, lectures or a think tank
that works from this magnificent room. Maybe it’s just for George Lucas. I wouldn’t object
to so many books or comfy chairs or great work stations. Think of all the simultaneous projects you could be working on at the same time.
This is a very minimalist setting. But you do have to decorate with what you love.
If too much stuff drives you crazy then this is the perfect style for you. The open
expanse provides a lovely contrast to the shelves teaming with information.
The detail of the ceiling provides interest perhaps even a reflection for the polished floor.
Anything you have a lot of will need a storage system. Whether it’s jewelry, sweaters, shoes or books.
Books can be blocked by subject or color. In order of title or author. Fiction versus non-fiction. I only have books I adore but if you love books regardless of their content then you may go with color or size. Purely a decorative feature. But magical just the same.
You might not think that you can put a chandelier in every room, but you can!
You can’t read by a chandelier but you sure can enjoy a wow factor. It turns
the beautiful factor way up.
This off-centered chandelier may not appeal to the symmetrical minded but I love it.
This seating area is intimate. It’s perfect for relaxing at the end of the day, sharing tidbits
with each other. A great floor lamp at the other end of the sofa would not be out of order but
it would have to live up to the rest of the sumptuousness.
Natural light from your windows will provide ambient lighting during the daylight hours.
When the sun sets, though you will need to depend on auxiliary lighting, recessed in the ceiling, table and floor lamps.
Dimmers are always an excellent idea. Being able to create the appropriate mood for whatever the activity. Are you having a few friends over for a glass of wine? You don’t need bright lights. Are you having friends over for a game of cards or a board game, well then you do need a brighter light.
Lighting for your home is vital.
1.) Task lighting 2.) Ambient lighting and 3.) Glitter.
Task lighting is the lamp over your shoulder for reading or recessed lighting for cooking.
Ambient lighting is the overall lighting for the room, a ceiling fixture is the soft glow for the room.
Glitter is the sparkle, the chandelier, sconce or pendant that creates a wow factor big or small.
This lamp is perfect for the bookworm nestled in the arm of this comfy sofa.
Bazaar is a sale of miscellaneous objects. Bizarre is markedly unusual, strange or odd. Bazaar style is usually colorful, it doesn’t follow the rules, in fact the more rules you break the better.
This style is ideal for first time apartment dwellers. Ideal if you find yourself in straightened circumstances and reduced to thrift shops, garage sales and consignment shops. Maybe you don’t have limited funds but love shopping at these places – love what you are finding? Bring it home and make it beautiful.
A simple collection of pottery and vases make a nice statement. The pottery reflects the pattern in the art.
Can your explorative, creative eye find such beautiful shapes to make this kind of ensemble?
The square vase and the green foliage are making a strong contribution as well.
Experimenting with this component will also create something beautiful.
You can do just about anything with lampshades these days. Why not change out the white shade
for something more exciting? Are there any rules? Only the ones you can break. But here are a few guidelines:
• The more basic the shape of the body of the lamp, the more varied styles of shades it can take.
• Repeat the shape(s) in the lamp body in the shade shape; i.e., a round lamp on a square base can
take a shade with a rounded top and square bottom.
• For every “rule”, there is a talented designer who can successfully break it with success! Your eye is your best guide.
And on diameter:
The diameter (width) of a table shade should NEVER exceed the height of the base (to the bottom of the socket) and should be within 2″ of this dimension. Floor lamp shades should clear the widest part of the bulb by at least 3.5″ on each side of the bulb (unless using compact fluorescent bulb). Lampshade size is usually expressed in terms of its diameter (16″ shade has a diameter of 16″).
This white shade is ok but look at the possibilities. The drapery pattern is an option.
The color of the flowers might work. Something dramatic like black or chocolate would echo the dark wallpaper. Even something nubby like the ottoman/cocktail table. Options. Options. Options.
Art can easily be changed. It’s good to have more than one arrangement
for a wall. Have you ever thought about making the arrangement seasonal,
or something related to a celebration or an event?
The canvas below could easily be put away for awhile and something different
could take it’s place. Black and white silhouettes would work beautifully. It’s obvious
that black is a favorite so I’m sure they have seen other art they adore. Or their designer
could locate something equally delicious. Why not enjoy?
